Small Groups

At Central UMC we look forward to fostering community and connectedness through a variety of small groups that meet throughout the year. Some may meet on a topic or ministry area briefly, others may meet together as bible studies and other topical studies for a given period, and yet others may meet for ongoing support and socialization. If you’d be interested in being part of a small group that may meet on another day, time, or location than Sunday morning, please contact office@knoxcentralUMC.org for more information.

WOWs

The WOWs dinner group (Women Who Worship) at Central UMC is an informal gathering open to all women of all ages who would like an evening out for positive conversation and support. The idea is to “do life” together by having dinner in a casual setting monthly so that we may get to know one another better. There is no agenda, no preparation – simply dinner out! A calendar of monthly dinner locations around our city is listed regularly in the Central UMC newsletter and weekly bulletins.

Music Ministry

The Chancel Choir is the heart of Central’s music ministry. The choir sings in the Sunday worship service. The choir practices on Wednesday nights from 7-8 p.m. Once or twice a year they perform special cantatas during worship. Everyone is welcome to sing in the choir! Our music ministry also includes handbells, other instruments, and forms of musical offerings

Special Needs

This is an intentional ministry for us. We have one-on-one “buddies” for children who have certain challenges so they can be a part of Sunday School and worship with the rest of the children. Central has a special relationship with Sunshine Industries (employment) and Beta Homes (residences), and many of Knoxville’s intellectual and developmental challenged adults. Our Beta class is provided for these adults on Sunday mornings and many of them participate in worship, act as greeters, host the welcoming table, and help with the children’s time on occasion. We developed a nature trail for their enjoyment and host an annual Easter Egg Hunt.
