Threads on Third — A Unique Women’s Apparel and Accessories Boutique

Threads on Third is a unique women’s clothing ministry at Central UMC supporting financially challenged
women in life transitions.

Where is Threads on Third?

“Threads on Third” takes its name from its location on the third floor of Central UMC, 201 E. Third Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee.

Who Does Threads on Third Serve?

Threads on Third partners by invitation with select women-focused non-profit organizations, agencies, and ministries. Threads on Third clientele are women engaged with select non-profit organizations who serve adult women in various life situations, such as those housed temporarily in domestic abuse shelters, those returning to the community from residential addiction recovery programs or incarceration, those in financial distress from divorce, job loss, fires, or other emergency circumstances, special needs adults in training for employment needing work clothing, etc. They will be referred to Threads on Third and possibly be accompanied by an agency employee or volunteer.

When is Threads on Third Open?

The boutique is open by appointment Thursdays 10a-12n (unless otherwise noted) for women in need of apparel, as determined by and referred by the partner agencies. Threads on Third will accommodate shoppers from a maximum five agencies each week, with advance email notification, so that the boutique can be properly staffed.

What is the Shopping Experience Like?

Through advance appointment, two women referred by each approved agency per Thursday will be able to shop at Threads on Third. Each woman may shop once every 60 days. Shoppers will be able to “purchase”
• six clothing items
• four toiletry items
• four accessories
maximum per visit, with assistance from an assigned shopping assistant who will be attentive to the customer’s needs and in tune with creating a dignifying experience for her. The shopping assistant will be familiar with the store inventory and able to locate desired items/sizes, helping match garments for maximum wardrobe flexibility. Items selected are for the shopper only.
